Tsimshian carved halibut hook. Decorated with a figural element of a diving loon, an animal associated with prowess in fishing. The figural element is older than the frequently-replaced lower section holding the hook and shows good patina from use. Collected from a Tsimshian village around 1930 by a missionary family.
