Civil War M1850 foot officer's presentation sword with scabbard. The guard is marked with the inscription, "2d Lieut Wm McFee". The scabbard locket is inscribed "25th Ohio Vols Infantry" above the upper hook and "DEC. 25, 1864 FROM FRIENDS" just below. The blade is etched along three-fifths of the length in floral and military motifs, with the phrase "US" on one face and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" on the other. The maker's mark on the ricasso identifies the manufacturer as W. Clauberg of Solingen. The sword has been cleaned and has some pitting but retains a nice color. There are small dents and scratches to the brass, and a small area of the sharkskin handle covering has worn off.

William McFee, 2nd Lieutenant in Company D (comprising volunteers from Richland, Huron, and Fayette counties) of the 25th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, enlisted October 18, 1864 at the age of 30. He served until July 6, 1865, when he resigned his commission. During this time, the 25th Ohio operated along the South Carolina coast and participated in the occupation of Charleston.
A tintype photo of McFee in the original case is included with the sword. "William McFee" is written in pencil on the interior of the case underneath the tintype. The case is damaged and the tintype has some scratches to the face.
