A spiraling relief carving that rises the length of the tusk depicts daily life in Congo at the beginning of the 20th century, with detailed imagery of hunters, traders, farmers, warriors and kings, in both traditional and western garb, carrying the tools of their trade and engaged in lively action. An assortment of wild and domesticated animals interspersed with the figures adds to the vitality and realism of this distinctive piece.
